Bushwalking to find a little motivation
Saturday, August 15, 2009
The weather was beautiful today and so I took myself and my dog out for a bushwalk for a couple of hours through the Molonglo Gorge. It's a very dry kind of terrain, despite there being a river at the bottom (or the remains of one after a decade-long drought), and it's hardly spectacular. The environment I was in, and the fact that I've been so flat and unmotivated caused me to pause and think about where I'm at, where I was (in terms of motivation and fitness) and where I want to be in the future.
As I looked up at the top of the gorge I couldn't imagine myself being able to climb to those heights, and yet one step at a time, sometimes scrambling up rocks along the path, I did it. It was a nice kind of metaphor for my fitness, health and weight-loss. It's just one step at a time, and that's the only way to get there.
On a positive note, it occurred to me that considering that I lost 11kg, and over 12 months only put 7kg back on, I came out ahead, right? I might still be in the obese zone with plenty of work ahead, but not all is lost.
Hello Spark People! I think I'm back!
