Fear of Sodium!!!

I am now two weeks into SP and today I ran across a lot of information regarding sodium. I have not put any thought into what my sodium intake has been so far. However, now I fear that my sodium intake has and or will affect my weight loss. I read somewhere today that one day of high sodium intake can prevent you from losing any weight that week. I went to my nutritional goals and added sodium to be tracked. At the end of the day I went 1500 mg over the recommended 2300 mg!!! Only my tracker didn't reflect my intake until after the day was done. I am hoping this is due to me changing the goal in the middle of the day and for tomorrow I will be able to see the sodium just like I can see calories, fat, carbs and protein.

I refuse to look at this as a reason to not care. Instead I am looking at is as an additional challenge to my new lifestyle. I am really trying to dig into every article I can find on anything that will educate me and guide me to get fit and lose weight. SP has so much information and I am learning new stuff everyday!

    Don't try to make all the changes right up front, because your body is going to start giving you a hard time about it. Think about it-- denying your body EVERYTHING it has gotten used to will send you headfirst into Cravings City, which is right around the corner from Overwhelmed Outlook and Depression Drive.

    Small steps is vital. This week, tackle one bad habit-- when doing that one thing becomes a habit, then add another... You can do it, and you will get there... Trust me, we've all been there!

    I can usually tell by Nutrition Tracker how much sodium I have at any time. I hope you will be able to do this as well. I find the Nutrition Tracker to be one of the best tools on Spark People. There is sodium in everything---I am now not eating processed soups because of the high amounts of sodium. emoticon

    You will learn as you go. Like Elizabeth said - baby steps. I just saved an article today on sugar that I want to print out later and read when I have time to comprehend it better. There is so much good information here. I have learned so much and hope to continue learning as time goes on.

    I'm a salt freak. I crave salt. I have challenge myself to no added salt. I never thought to track my salt but I'm going to add it. Thanks for sharing.

    Don't freak out over it.
    Baby steps, my friend.
    Try to eat mostly fresh and few processed food and it will go down.
    I'm just learning about sodium myself.
