Getting mentally ready for my next phase of exercise!

Friday, August 14, 2009

I guess this will be my "before" photo???

Ok so I am getting ready to add strength training to my exercise regime!

It is so funny though because when i started my journey of trying to get fit ... I would much RATHER do weights than cardio. Mainly I think because I was so unfit, I could not breathe!!!
So I started off strength training 3 times a week, and it helped, but I was not losing any fat, just building muscle.....then we went on Vacation and I fell off the wagon for a while....
then I started SP and the weight came off due to watching the calories, but No weight training...or at least very little, then I started swimming and then I started becoming fit. Finally I can do cardio and breathe! then I got a rotator cuff injury last year in OCT and due to that my weight lifting is restricted ..... now that I am about 99 % recovered I feel IT IS TIME!!!!

I have my 3 times a week cardio schedule set up.....( actually I run 3 X and swim 3x a week and rest one day .....) but I am going to move the running and swimming to the same day and Alternate the days with Strength training!

I have a follow up appointment on Tuesday with the Physio therapist and I am going to ask him for upper body exercises that are safe for my shoulders. ( In addition to the shoulder strengthening exercises I already do )....
For instance he has said NOT to do lateral raises...it is not good for my type of injury!

So I need to have an upper body routine that I can do!

I am thinking of joining the Body for life challenge for 12 weeks .... ( the before and after pick make me nervous though! )
anyway It is quite a commitment, but I am trying to encourage my hubby to do it with me!
If this can be something we can do together I know we can succeed
It is just the push I need to achieve the next phase of my fitness and health.

We have both agreed to work on getting the basement set up to exercise ...so once that is done ...we are going to pick a day and start the 12 week program!
As I said though, it is a commitment, and I am mentally getting in gear...counting the cost ....and then when we say GO !!! it will be a big ...."GO!!!" no looking back!

Hey Mel! Sounds like you have some exciting plans. Body for Life from what I've seen, sounds awesome!! If you convince your hubby to join you, you'd be unstoppable. Look at all you do now!! My hubby has been great this week. He's had inventory at work 3 days in a row, so I got up earlier with him and did my workout before work and LOVED it! I need to find that umph every morning! LOL

Hugs, Laurie

Hey Mel; I took a quick loot at the Body for Life site... I had never heard of it, looks like a great program! I'm sure you could do it. (I think you under estimate what you already do). Maybe it is organizing it in a way that they lay out... What I was looking at only showed 20 minutes of intense cardio alternating ST ~ obviously there is more to it technique wise, nutrition etc... let me know what you decide!!

    You sound pretty focused!!!

As I said I added ST this week, and I am sure it makes a difference! But because of my age, and goals, I am actually doing it instead of some of the cardio! You have to figure out what works for you.

I am so glad you are counting the cost... I think it's been said ~ every decision has a cost! Once you set your goals, I am sure you WILL achieve them!
