But we could have hummingbirds

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

This is the right side of my garden. I bought a hummingbird feeder but it has not attracted any birds so far so I am going to go over and get some plants that attract humming birds. Then between the plants and the feeders, ( i am going to get more) I may have some humming birds.
We went to Washington, California to a hotel that was near the gold mines back toward the end of the 18 hundreds. So Grover Cleveland plus Wyatt Earp
and his wife Josephine stayed there. THey have the old register to prove it.
It is along the Yuba River and they have humming bird feeders. They had a crew that were just delightful along the edge of the most scenic river views.
With rocks and little cascading water falls.
We forgot the camera. Oh well go visit it yourself it is on line.
You can get a rustic room with the W/C down the hall.

Could it be the type of feeder you bought? I have 2 humming bird feeders, they have different shapes, but they are both at the same level at each end of a very long balcony. One is is hourglass-shaped, made of transparent plastic only, quite plain, with just 2 small holes on opposite sides for them to sip the nectar from (it was quite cheap too!). The other has a red base and yellow plastic flowers all around to sip from and a large transparent base at the top.Fancy and expensive. An entire family of humming birds has been coming to the plain one for years. The other has been totally ignored for years!! If I switch the feeders around I still get the same result, so it seems to be the feeder, not the location.
