Keeping the momentum

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

The countdown is on.....just under two weeks until I return back to work. I worry that the habit I started with walking every day (or most days) will end. I am excited that my clothes are fitting better and I even got to buy some smaller tops. But what happens when I get out of the routine? Will I go back to my old, horrible ways? Will I make excuses for not exercising again? Right now I have a friend who helps keep me motivated, but that won't be able to continue as he works nights. I won't be able to walk at 11 at night. So what am I to do? I have to set a plan in motion and make it stick. I hate to lose all that I have gained this summer.

I see on your Spark Page that you are Special Ed. teacher. I am a retired teacher...when I was still teaching I found a 'buddy' and since we both got to school early...we would power walk for 20-30 min. because we weren't sure what a mile was. When it go too dark to walk safely in the morning...we talked to the principal about using a room as sometimes the gym was used after school and opened it up twice a week to exercise. I also would take the 15 min. of afternoon recess for me, and exercised in my classroom. Walking in place...eventually a few students joined me (I taught 5 th grade) I tried to do that 3x/wk. So there are possibilities...I'm sure if you brainstorm, you will come up with a plan. Let me know what you decide to do...I'd be glad to hold you accountable to what you decide to do.
