Biggest Loser? How do I feel?

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

I am encouraged by the show! It shows me that there are so many of US out there dealing with the same struggles, trying to overcome many "issues" in our various lives that contribute to our overeating/not taking the time to care for ourselves. The "hardest" part of watching the show, though, is that these people are willing to put themselves through some embarrassing, tough things in front of the camera. Let alone they have to "strip down" to get weighed each week for millions to see....way too much exposure for me. I really feel for them and give them big bonus points for doing that. Through it all I have to say that on Wednesday mornings I am more motivated to go to the gym and make healthy choices with food because of watching the show.

I agree about the stripping down part. I haven't even gotten up the guts to do a "before" picture on here. I kind of figure I have enough pictures of clothed a pretty heavy weight that I can post later so I don't really need one of me unclothed.

I watched a season a few years ago. I think it was the first 'couples' season. Allie was the first female winner if that helps?
Anyway, that year I loved it! I was motivated by these people who were in far worse shape than me managing to complete all these goals. I felt ashamed or embarrassed almost that here were these people running up hills etc while I can't run half a block to catch a bus without puffing.

The next season I tuned in all excited to be motivated by these people and their journey's again, but instead all i saw was the competitive side of the show. teams being pitted against each other instead of supporting. I understand it's a 'game show' of sorts, but I really disliked how it became about strategic game playing and voting off your biggest rival from the other team. I had to give up watching it.

I really want to like the show again because I think it's heart is in the right place in encouraging people to get healthier and fitter.

If it motivates you then it may be worth the embarrassment.
