This has got to be my busiest WEEK of the YEAR, yet here I am sparkin' a blog :o)
This Thursday, August 13th I will be hosting my 2nd Annual MTS Foundation Charity Event. Praying on bended knees to double what we earned last year. The purpose of this charity is to provide scholarships for low income families who desire to provide their children with a Christian Education. Last year we had the funds to sponsor 13 children. Tears are flowing down my cheeks as I'm typing right now. This is so very special to me. I love working with children and God has made a very special place for them in my heart.
When I graduated high school I really wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life...and didn't even consider what God might have for me. I decided not to play basketball at a junior college, but to stay home (momma's girl) and go to school. Raised in church, I faithfully attended and served. As a senior in HS Ms. Rhonda and Ms. Martha (children church leader's) asked me to be over the toddler class...I thought how hard could it be, they're only 2, right??? WRONG!!! They were little monsters and I didn't even last a month. They wore those pull ups and I didn't know they tore down the side, so I used scissors to cut them off of them... and their TERDS were HUGE...LOL My stomach and sanity could take no more, so I went to the ladies and told them I was stepping down and that working with children was not for me!!!!
OK, so back on track had a little detour...so I decided to stay home and go to school. So, Bro. Turner, Ms. Martha's DH, asked me if I would like to come and teach the 3 year old class at the Academy, my wife recommended you (thanks Ms. Martha). **HECK NO** was flashing in my mind...but he assured me they were potty trained, they take an hour nap (giving me time to study), blah, blah, I was convinced and said yes! YES, I KNOW, RIGHT??? And right there is where my life was changed for eternity, when I said yes! I continued to go to school and year after year I continued to teach. I'm so thankful God used Ms. Martha as tool to encourage me to teach, or I wouldn't be where I am today.
The year of 9-11 I had the privilege of co-teaching the 5th and 6th grade classes with Ms. Martha, the **PRO-TEACHER**. A woman of faith, love - oh her endless love for children, passion, diligence and the gift she shared with me that year was unexplainable. I learned so much from her ~ my mentor ~ I wanted to be just like her. Little did I know that would be my last year teaching along side this **AMAZING EDUCATOR**. That summer she went home to be with the LORD. Shelly, I was thinking of her, PRESSING ON! Ms. Martha had Kidney failure and had to go to dialysis 3 times a week. Her body was so worn, she was tired, but she kept on serving, do the Lord's work with a big SMILE, keeping her eye on the mark. She impacted so many little lives for Jesus, including mine.
Today, I still serve in this Academy as an Administrator and teacher. MTS stands for Martha Turner Scholarship Foundation. So, her legacy lives on as a treasured educator still impacting the lives of young children. I'm so blessed to have had the opportunity to serve along side such an amazing Christian wife, mother, teacher, prayer warrior, and servant. A lesson learned...Life is so precious what are you gonna do with it???
"For God so loved the world, He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting LIFE." John 3:16
Her favorite verse she made sure every child knew!
Thank you for praying for me and this special event!
