breaking the breakfast cycle

Why is breakfast the hardest cycle to break? Is that I don't want to put much preparation time into it? Do I not have things prepared ahead of time? Am I celebrating my break from eating? Half the time I run out the door and then eat 2 hours into work.
I think it has been 2 decades of either carb n fat w or w/o protein. I should have bought stock in bagels and cheese. Am I alone in this pattern?
For awhile I had been making oatmeal with flax, raisins, and maple syrup and then I ran out of syrup and didn't pick any up....it has been a month! I can't eat eggs and so many breakfast products have eggs. Yogurt and most cereals cause reflux, which I don't understand why - maybe it is sugar or the particular grain.
So...I dont know...maybe scrambled tofu and lowcarb wraps would be ok. Although I find that what I eat may not be the most nutritional bang...as in I disovered in 1 serving of Total cereal I can get my full daily B vitamins!!

I've been doing frozen waffles with peanut butter if I'm in a hurry (or sugar free jam). Then I can fills them up, eat them and run :)

I cook several servings of oatmeal ahead at night, portion them out in reheat type serving size containers and stick them in the fridge . You can add nuts, whatever sugar you prefer, raisins etc. right in the container so that all you have to do is grab and go. Also, I used to get reflux until I started eating yogurt that had the right cultures.If you want yogurt shots you should try Danactive Yogurt Drink. That is the kind I used to use and it worked very well. If you have a Costco membership - the Greek yogurt Chobani is a steal.

All really good points. I never thought about wasting cals on breakfast but that could be part of it too. I really like lunch/dinner meal choices - perhaps that is a habit from way back when as a student you work, study, work and when you get home your hungry and eat - then you are a bit full or sick in the morning from the late night eating and shove off breakfast.
I do need to start preparing the night before because I am always running late in the morn. The extra few minutes I rather be out the door than still in the kitchen seeing time pass by. Feel the same way with making coffee in the morning. I have that down to a 5 min routine but still.
I don't know if it is habit or preference. Perhaps it is both. YOu know most people list standard breakfasts - almost sounds like having the same thing day after day after week, and maybe that is part of it. Since my lunches and dinners can vary quite a bit or be more spontaneous.
Who actually sits down and eats? I bet that is people who like breakfast! I know about the McD thing. I don't know how it became a habit with that greasy $1 doublecheeseburger but it did and that was 1/3 my caloric intake for a day...and if you have 2. It tastes so much worse than cooking more cleanly at home. But you know the time it takes in the drivethru really is the same it would take to prep most of that meal I'll bet.
I definitely think it would be really hard to HAVE to do/eat something bc of health. I have high chol and was instructed to drink promise yogurt shots and drink metamucil. I have been about 5% successful. I admire your dicipline!

Breakfast was always non-existent for me until I was told I had diabetes and went on insulin and that I HAD TO EAT BREAKFAST.
So I do things like PB with apples or strawberries and almonds or oatmeal with Promise, brown sugar splenda, allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg. I do hard boiled egg white (can only have 2 yolks a month) with no salt crackers and mini salad (if you can do salad for breakfast) or sometimes something left over from dinner.
You just have to be creative...........................
...and you can do it.

I don't like to eat unless I am hungry and I often don't feel hungry til after 8am which is still "breakfast". So I have stuff to eat at work. I guess just keep on trying...I think it's just a matter of creating a new habit... which is tough. Don't give up.

Yes, breakfast has been an issue for me too. First, it was that I love to sleep and I never got up early enough to make my breakfast at home, so I would pick up the eggs at mcdonalds (after I found out they sell just scrambled eggs too) and coffee, but they were still putting me over my fat intake for my breakfast numbers. Then, I started doing the "walk away the pounds" dvd which makes me get up earlier, I feel great, but I still was running out of time to make my breakfast at home. Now, I buy wholewheat bagels, oatmeal, fruit and hardboiled eggs at the grocery store on Monday on my way to work and keep them at work all week. I finally started eating my high protein, low fat breakfast this way. But let me tell you, after joining SP, buying the super fatty breakfast at mcdonalds was a very hard habit to break. I too don't know why breakfast was so hard for me.

It's important to eat something to jump start your metabolsim for the day...how about a piece of toast or a banana? I generally pack something the night before and take in to work and eat at my desk when I arrive. I enjoy fat free yogurts, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs and any fruits.
Remember, you can eat any type of food for breakfast...how about a sandwich or left overs from dinner the night before...as long as you eat something.

I have problems with breakfast too. I never know what to eat. I hate to waste calories on breakfast foods because I'm uaually hungrier at lunch, then breakfast. I too find that I don't like to make time to fix something in the morning. I hope you find what works for you.
