Day One: Need more/better sleep schedule! 08.05.09

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Today is the first day of my attempt to blog daily through my weight loss/life journey. (I got inspired by all the press for Julie & Julia and it made me think that maybe I can blog daily through this life-changing process!)

Right now my biggest struggle is getting up in the mornings. Whether it's getting up to go workout or just getting up for work in general, it is a daily battle. I don't know if it's hard because I'm actually tired (which seems hard to believe because I'm getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night) or because I don't want to go to work because I don't like my job very much or because I don't feel very good about myself in general. Anyway you look at it, the problem is the same: I HAVE TO GET UP IN THE MORNINGS.

I ALWAYS feel better when I work out in the AM and I'm definitely more likely to get the workout done. I guess my failures at getting up to work out have to end because tomorrow is the first day of Boot Camp Tulsa - a 4 week program my mom and I signed up for. It starts at 530am Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 8am Saturdays. I'm going to have to adjust my running schedule to accommodate this, but I think it will be worthwhile. It's always good to mix things up. Unfortunately, my mom is out of the country so I have to go it alone on my first day of class. I know it will be worth it though!

My new plan is to try to get up at the same time (500am) Monday through Friday to workout. I'll have boot camp two of those days and I will run the other 3. On the days I run, I don't need to get up quite that early but I think for me consistency is probably the best plan. Saturdays I'll need to get up around 730 to go to 800am boot camp. Sunday can be my sleep in day. =) In order to make this work, I need to be in my room getting ready for bed by 9pm every night. I don't think I'll be asleep at 9pm but I can be in my room reading or laying out my workout clothes or whatever I need to do to wind down and maximize my sleep schedule.

So tomorrow will be day one of th e new plan! Get excited!

I am with you on this one. It is a struggle for me to get up to workout, i haven't been sleeping well which contributes. However I have committed to working out everyday and pretty much the only time I can consistently do that is in the morning. I knew I wasn't good at keeping myself accountable so I am having a friend call me every morning at 6:50am to make sure I am. It helps her be ready for her 7am yoga class and I know I have to answer to someone if I don't get up.
