I was reading through some of the message boards tonight, and was so struck by the number of questions on motivation and staying the course. It came to me that some of us think of weight loss as a temporary detour to travel before we get to our main destination.
WHAT IF:
You really could think of weight loss as a lifelong journey. Not that you will lose weight forever, but if after you've lost your weight, what if you keep on using all the tools and strategies you learn on your journey to be successful forever. If you can really make that connection in your head, then getting motivated might be easier.
If I had only been able to think that way the hundreds of times I tried to lose weight, I wouldn't have ended up morbidly obese. If I had only realized that losing weight wasn't the end of the journey, but rather the beginning.
So, if you can think of your journey as a lifelong road, rather than a temporary detour, perhaps your motivation will be renewed and strengthened.
Thanks for reading, and as always, if I can help - let me know! Diane
