Introducing.....The Smallest Sparker
Wednesday, July 22, 2009
Hello. You don't know me, but I belong to a species of Hummingbirds in the Southeast, known as the Ruby-throated hummingbird. I'm not sure how I landed on this plant hanger. All I know is I was pushed from my nest and here I am. I can't even fly as fast as my Mom.
Most hummers my age don't survive, if I do, my average life span is 3 to 4 years.
I only weigh 3 grams, maybe less because I am not fully grown.
With the help of my Mom, you can see me sitting at this contraption. I'm not sure what it is for, but I hope my Mom comes back soon to help me.
Oh wait here she is. Did you know that when she flys her wings beat at a rate of 60 to 80 beats per second? That's the humming sound you hear.
She keeps eating from that contraption, I guess I'll have to too.
Mmmmmm! This sugar stuff sure is good.
But I'm sooooooo tired, now. I think I'll just fly over here for a rest.....ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz
