I finished my second 5k without dying in the process. It was the Runners on Parade part of the Fort Wayne 3 Rivers Festival. There were over 1200 runners. I actually was able to cut almost 5 minutes off my time compared to the first one!
Jennifer and the boys were there to root me on. They are so great because about a minute into the run it started raining. They waited for me to finish in the rain. She was able to get a pic on me starting the race but the rain was too much to get the camera back out. I will get that one added soon.
I ran this one with my wife's cousin Kriston. She has been running since last year. She was my motivator to stay with her as long as I could. As we waited for the race to start it started thundering. It was like seeing a herd of anxious cattle waiting to be spooked by the storm when the we were giving the sounder.
About a minute into the run the rains came with more thunder and lightning. We endured as the rain came down harder. It actually was nice because it kept us cool. Me & Kris talked as we ran. Before I knew it we were at the 1 mile checkpoint (10:34). With more conversation we were at the 2 mile mark (20:15). After about 2.5 miles I couldn't last any longer so I walked for about 2 min to catch my breathe. I was good to go and finished the race strong!
Because of all the complaining about how I felt bad all week, my wife was pleasantly surprised at how well I finished. She laughed that she wasn't ready for me to cross the finish so soon after Kris. She was hoping I could be under 40. LOL
We had electronic chips attached to out shoes to get the accurate reading. I will find out my actual time when it is posted and add it to my post. So far I know it is below 32 min. My first 5k was 36:35.
I am in the center with white shirt.
