Hot Diggity Dog

Friday, June 26, 2009

This great vegan adventure hubby and I started was partially spurred on by the idea of growing some of our own fruits and veggies. We have talked of putting in a garden since we bought this place. In researching all the options, I found I preferred the idea of container gardening (easier to control pests, nutrients and water). I attended a workshop offered at a nearby farm -- coming away with the instructions on to make really cool "grow boxes".

Voila!

You're looking at the start of zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers and watermelon. Several kinds of tomatoes, basil and strawberries next.

And so it begins -- hot diggity dog!

You got the grow box system right, Smashy. This way a heavy rain (like we get in Florida) doesn't drown anything. It just washes some of the nutrients away and so you replace them.

The vegan trucker I am married to has a big frig and several food boxes on board that can hold roughly three weeks worth of meals (which is how long he is usually gone). Otherwise he is stuck getting veggie subs from Subway or augmenting out of whatever grocery stores he might run across. He wouldn't set a foot in a KFC -- even before he went vegan. You are right -- it is challenging for him to find good food out there.

so, the 'food' and water goes down the small pipe... into the bottome 1/3 and fills it up. Anything over the 3" drains away and is lost. the bigger sewer type pipes with slits in them, absorb the food and water and the plant roots absorb from that. I hope I am getting this right. Oh and just a quick question.?????? WHAT DO VEGAN TRUCK DRIVERS EAT? Do Wendy's and KFC have vegan????

RUBBERMAID? Awesome. Are there holes in the bottoms for drainage?
Great idea.
