The Bike Ride

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

I ride my mountain bike 9 kms three to four times a week. We live in the country and the road I ride on is covered in thick, loose gravel so it's not an easy ride (at least not as easy as riding on pavement is). emoticon My boyfriend decided, for the first time last night, that he was going to join me on my ride - great news as I'm always up for company. Now my boyfriend is one of those guys who forgets he's 43 and thinks he's as fit as he was twenty years ago (he's not). He's strong (is a farm boy) but isn't necessarily fit. We're very competitive but I still warned him when he shot past me out of our driveway that he needed to pace himself for a long ride. He quickly faded and soon I was half a kilometre AHEAD of him for two-thirds of our ride! emoticon

Exercising is paying off big time! Not only are my thighs shrinking, I out cycled Mr. Man! Woot! The bad news is we got caught in a bad rain storm emoticon 2 km from home, I was blinded by the rain, drove into the ditch and he beat me home. emoticon

Ouch! I hope you didn't get hurt?

But maybe Mr. Man needed to win? We both know you would have beat him so WooHoo for you!

It is funny how they look at the exercise we do as nothing and think they are in better shape, sorry the storm came up and you did not get to be first all the way back.
