I'm not as crazy as I thought!

Saturday, June 13, 2009

I am a very impulsive person, always leading with my emotions! So when a friend of mine told me that her brother had challenged us to run a half marathon....I said yes! Then I started to really think about it! 13 miles is more that 4 times longer than I had ever run before. I have just barely gotten a 5k under my belt.....am I Insane! My husband definitly thought I was...mostly because he knew I would sign him up too!
And he was right...I said yes, so I signed up. My husband and I are registered for our first Half Marathon...in October....in New Orleans! My Hometown! The pressure is on...I have to start training.....wow...I really have to start training!
I printed out a training schedule...it seemed pretty daunting when I looked at it all at once. So I started to break it down and look at it only 1 week at a time. I can do that!
And you know what....I really can do it. After my run tonight...I really believe that I can do the half marathon. Tonight, I put my ipod on, set my Nike+ and hit the streets with my husband. It was a beautiful evening and we both were feeling great! We ran the furthest we had EVER run! We completed 5 miles in 56 minutes! It is a lot slower than my 5k pace....but hell...its longer too!
I am not going to put any pressure on myself to run any particular pace...My goal is to run to the finish! And now I know I can!

I think you'll do great! When I did my 10k, I was bummed that I was at the back of the pack, but I was proud of myself for finishing. I didn't think I was ever going to be able to do something like that.

I think y'all will have an AWESOME time and heck--you're going to burn a lot of calories during the race, so you can go out on the town and PARTY! I was SO drained after my race though, so don't over-do it.

It's good to have a big goal in the future to keep you out on the road!

Hooray for you. You are courageous, brave and determined. You are so right, the pace is not what is important in training or necessarily in the run itself. Keep going. I know you will do your best and have fun too!
