You mean I don't NEED a miracle pill or plan to lose weight? who wouldda thunk...

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

I have decided that because of me being so close to the 200 pound lost milestone that I am not getting on the scale for the rest of the week because I want Friday mornings weigh in to be a surprise to me. You will notice that I put a count down clock on the left panel (this is at my blogspot page, the link is above) and that will be when I step on the scale next, yesterday morning I stepped on and this morning I did not, with any luck I will reach that mark this week. I have to admit that I am a bit excited to be so close to that 200 pound lost mark, and at the same time I feel like its not something that many people would like to be able to say, the fact that I HAD the 200 extra pounds on me to lose is quite disheartening. On the other side of that coin is the fact that I have stayed strong enough through this whole experience to successfully drop that kind of weight and that side of it is quite the opposite of disheartening.

To think that one day I woke up and decided that I was going to lose 259 pounds that was my goal number and actually am doing it without any miracle pill, surgery or pay by the month plan amazes me to this day. I think people should do what works for them but I am also in the camp that believes that nothing more than determination and willpower are the only things needed to have success in weight loss, No Gym membership or miracle pill can do the work for us, we have to do it ourselves. I started out just eating less calories and walking however long I could, eventually buying an exercise bike off of craigslist for $40 if I remember right and now my main form of exercise is running, or building up to running anyways. I shop smart and eat well, I do not spend thousands of dollars on specialty foods or meal packets, I eat real food prepared by yours truly, in fact and I have said this before, I spend less now on groceries than I did in my 500 pound days. Relearning how to feed our bodies so that we are fueling our days instead of filling the craving void with junk processed foods, it only takes a little bit of dedication to make sure that we stay on track and after that it becomes habit and before you know it you are writing a post on a blog that was not expected to last a week about having lost almost 200 pounds.

My intake for Tuesday was a bit high at around 1800 total calories, damned evil doritos and I did not exercise at all because I was a bit sore from Monday's run, 1 gallon of green tea and more than a gallon of straight H2O went down the hatch. Tonight is W2D2 of the C25K program for me and I am looking forward to the run tonight and honestly feel pretty good about how it will go even though the forecast calls for rain.

I feel like since being cleared by the doc to run I have had a couple productive weeks where health is concerned, I started running and am back on track with the pounds coming down again. Over all I feel great and am looking forward to this Fridays weigh in because I think that I have a chance to hit that 200 pounds lost mark, I just might do a video post if I do hit it this week. With that the end has come to another exhilarating episode of as the fat guy turns starring the God of Meatballs himself! Thanks for following along and here's to Fridays weigh in!

emoticon I'm with you on this one, man! I did the same thing starting in 2003 and lost over 100 lbs., and I didn't once go the gym, buy specialty foods, or get surgery of any kind (save for the hernia repair surgery during my program).

People need to realize that they don't need any of those things to lose weight. All they need is the willingness to change their lifestyle and not go on a fad diet or "diet" of any kind.

I totally agree with you. I have heard horror stories about what happens to people that have surgerys and worked with one guy that had surgery. Even though he could only eat a certain amount of food he was still hungry all the time and also some things he ate made him really sick. That would be such a horrible nightmare to live with. Congrads on keeping your motivation and thanks for the inspiration you are on the right track. emoticon

I agree that no miracle pill will help you lose weight. I have tried 3 different diet pills and I can tell you that not one of the worked. Also a friend of mine had one prescribed to her and she couldn't get of the toilet. She has had more success watching what she eats than anything else

Wow, you are an inspiration. I was needing to read a post like yours. I wish you success for Friday. I am hoping to read your blog Friday. You are so right about finding your inner strength. I have seen too many people try to take the easier way with surgery and it doesn't end up being easy at all. Most of them gained it back after several years.

Thanks for being the person to show that it can be done the old fashion way! Exercise and a healthy diet. Best to you.

Very encouraging. I really hope you make the 200 pound mark. I have "only" 50 pounds to lose and it has been VERY slow but I have not given up (I'm very close though). So I suppose if you can lose 200 than I can lose 50.

Good luck and keep up the amazing work

It's great to know that we can lose without the pills or plans. I am new on Sparkpeople. Have lost five pounds in 4 weeks which is pretty good. Lost 5 first two weeks and have not lost since then but haven't gained either. I see myself starting bad habits again.
Good for you. You inspire me. You are doing it and that helps me to keep going. I have 45 pounds to lose. One day at a time I want to eat healthy and drink my water and exercise. Thank you. good luck with Friday weigh in. emoticon

I have read several of your blogs and they are always inspiring. You are so determined, you give me inspiration too. I didn't have to lose as much weight as you, but 45 pounds seemed like I would never make it. Now, I feel that I will truly get there. Thank you for sharing your story. Cynthia

Thanks for this encouraging blog. This is exactly what I want to do. FINALLY get to a healthy weight by making positive lifestyle changes -- not some kind of weird diet or "program." My 40 lbs. pales when compared to what you've accomplished -- but you encourage me that it CAN be done, step-by-baby-step. (And to forego the cheeseburger I have been secretly comtemplating for lunch.) emoticon

wow, you have come very far! here i am complaining that i still have 90 lbs to go. I was sad that I even had 100 lbs to many, I had ballooned to more than twice the size of my younger healthier self. My goal is not to be skinny, but to be healthy. I had gained so much weight that i had no energy, I literally stayed at home and just watched the dust gather as I thought about how I needed to lose weight - this went on for about 3 yrs - 1 yr before my husband died & even worse for nearly 2 yrs afterward. But, as time goes on and life continues, I finally decided to get up and just do i joined the infamous WW, learned how to count points and then decided it would be easier to just count calories seeing as how they are already on the menus and boxes and cans of just about every food you buy. so i dumped WW and joined a gym with my best friend. We both have a lot to lose - I must say it has bee WAY more fun than I ever thought it would. Anyways, didn't mean to post my story here - I just wanted to say thanks for the encouragement! God bless! emoticon
