Forcing myself to eat foods I don't like

Tuesday, June 09, 2009

I have been doing this for about five years now. And what is really strange is that I'm beginning to like them. Take for example Brussels sprouts. I had in times past tried them several times and even tried preparing them different ways and I still couldn't stand them. But now I really look forward to them when they are served. I read one time that you need to offer a food to a child as many as 15 times before they accept and eat it willingly. Maybe we are just big kids! If I know it is healthy for me, I will force myself to eat at least a little. Another food that became a favorite for me is beets. I would've never guessed that I would look forward to these foods ten years ago. Go figure! emoticon

A lebanese friend recently served brussel sprouts in his home countries cuisine. Broiled with olive oil and tyme and a few secret ingredients that he wouldn't divulge. simply delicious.
It let me to buy some.

I also bought some Kohlrabi, which the market said is a cross between a cabbage and a turnip. The first time I cooked I left on the bitter skin and it was awful. Now that I realise that you need to peel, it is one of my favorites for soups and stews.
