running...

Monday, June 08, 2009

I am really enjoying running...my body, however, seems to be protesting. After a run (about 5-6 miles), my joints hurt, my lower legs hurt (not muscular). So, I don't know if I did too much too soon, or if I'm just doing something wrong. I ran about 6 miles yesterday, and will now wait until Friday to run again (pain!). Maybe I'll cut back on miles, and work my way up slowly??? Not sure what to do...

Hope your body is recovering! Wow! I don't even walk 6 miles, let alone run 6 miles! :-) That is a great accomplishment in itself! I would say you are doing the right things by seeking advice and taking a break until your body has time to heal. Hang in there! You are doing an amazing job!

I'm not an expert but you may be taking it a little fast. Start a program that works up to the 5K. For now just take it easy.

Hello! I don't know what your running background is so you may know this already but, I decided to start training for a 5K and started doing some research. Apparently it is recommended that you be fitted for your running shoes by specialists to avoid injury. I went on the web site for a running team in my area and they recommended a few stores. Also, they host a running class that teaches technique for the "proper way" of running and training for a long run. The gentleman I spoke to said many people get injured and discouraged because they start feeling pain and tiredness and its mostly due to not having the right technique. Hope this helps! emoticon emoticon
