Yesterday was my first physical therapy appointment!
I really liked my therapist. She quickly made me feel comfortable with her knowledge and the way she interacted with my body. I also appreciated the fact that her evaluations of my physical condition were honest but non-judgmental. She put me through a series of tests and exercises comparing my right and left lower body. It was startling to find out how much more strength my left side has after compensating for my injured right side for the past 40 days.
I have a set of three stretching/strength exercises to do every day on each side, and she's told me to walk at least 20 minutes a day, but to be sure to wear good shoes and stay on level ground for now. She also taped my knee to keep my patella properly aligned, which has just about eliminated my pain. She also recommended water exercises and stationary bike.
I have two appointments a week with her for the next three weeks. I may need less, but they are on the calendar, just in case.
After my appointment I got together with a dear friend who had driven up from Portland to visit. We went to a local wetlands preserve I have been wanting to visit, and ended up having a very pleasant 45-minute or so stroll through the forest on a very nice path. I'm definitely going back.
Today the scale is down 1.5lbs from yesterday, and I'm feeling once again like I can do this.
Next step is to continue to tighten up my discipline around food. I need to get more turkey lunchmeat, more of the Thomas reduced-fat English muffins, and other of my quick-fix foods that I need, in order to keep away from fast food and homemade quesadillas.
I'm also looking forward to finally connecting with some of my SparkFriends in person, now that I'm getting my injury taken care of.
