I was raised by a full blooded German. We had meat and Potatoes, and gravy every meal! That is what I learned to cook and that is what I had always feed my family. Every meal was meat, one kind or another. The other day I picked up some turkey sausage. Boy it was so good. It was not bland like I expected it to be. It has spices and I really enjoyed it. I even gave Hubby a little and he said it wasn't "to Bad". It wasn't real greasy or heavy. I went back to the store and bought Turkey burger, bacon and everything else I could find. I was really amazed at how much I really did like it. I am sure I am not going to give beef up completely, but I can say, I will be eating more turkey in place of beef.
Okay camper girl......We raise beef on our farm so you have to keep eating it. You hear me beef not turkey. I am not a turkey farmer.
Actually we have really cut beef out of daily diets also. When we do have beef it is always lean cuts and we are pretty careful. We probably eat more chicken now and have added fish. Never ever eat a serving of beef that is larger than a computer mouse. To be really honest I don't even miss it that much.
I was raised in a german community too - raised on Bierocks which is still my favorite indulgence to say the least. I am also crazy about German Spaetzles and butter balls. Oh my, what a treat.
Take care - we are learning healthier ways to eat but we can still have our "comfort food" occasionally - just not Spaetzles every day.
I was raised the same way and made the same change several years ago. I still eat steak or hamburger (mostly when eating out), but really prefer turkey, chicken or fish most of the time.
Less beef for me, too! DH and I are enjoying fish and turkey meals, also. Once a month we do splurge on a nice steak. Have you tried making a meatloaf with ground turkey? Really good! I love turkey bacon and sausage, though I don't purchase these too often.
