June Goals

Saturday, May 30, 2009

I love how my spark friend, Runner_tiff_07, creates goals for the month and at the end of the month she grades herself on how she did with each goal. I want to do this for June.

~FITNESS GOALS- I just started at Brick Bodies today. My goal for June is to go 4 days a week. I want to continue to run 5kís on the treadmill and build up my swimming ability. I meet with a trainer Friday so that I can learn how to use the weight equipment and figure out what settings are best for me. My goal for June is to use the information gained in that training session to work on both cardio and strength training. My goal is to also try out some of the classes. The Body Sculpt and Aqua Sculpt classes look interesting. Maybe I can work up to a spinning class, but weíll see how that goes. I also want to go to a nearby trail with my bike at least once during June. My bike hasnít been ridden since I was probably 13 and the only way I can get it to the trail is to talk my bf into putting it in his truck and driving me to the trail. Iím hoping that I can practice on my real bike on the road some time during this month so possible I can complete my 5k in August.

~APARTMENT GOALS- I hope to be completely unpacked by the end of June. I am moved from my old apartment and am just trying to organize and put everything where it goes. This is difficult for me because Iím not at the new apartment all the time. When I am here I want to relax. But I think by the end of June everything should be put away.

~NUTRITION GOALS- Since my accident I have gotten off track with my nutrition intake. I am not measuring like I used to and because of limited internet access have not been entering in my food. I have gradually allowed myself to make some poor food choices, but during the month of June I want to tighten that up. No more pizza and icecream as regularly as I am now. If I have to eat out then Subway would be a better choice. I also need to stop letting sodas sneak in (even though I wasnít too too bad and limited it to Sprite versus my old friend Mt Dew). Time to start drinking water regularly again.

~LIFE GOALS- I start teaching summer school at the end of June. This will be my first teaching experience where I am the actual teacher. It will be very exciting. I will be doing HS intro to algebra for 5 hour days. Itíll be a difficult class, but great experience for my classes Iím teaching in September. My goal is to be as prepared as possible by meeting with the Academic Interventionist assigned to work with me. I want my first week of lessons to be planned and have an idea of how I want to arrange my classroom and structure the day.

Yay for monthly goals! Glad I could be an inspiration for your own fitness journey :). I agree that specific goals tend to be helpful, but you're just getting back into the swing of things so I would start out slowly. Don't want to burn yourself out! Maybe next month you can do weekly goals to go along with your monthly goals (that's what I do). It'll help you see your progress as you go during the month and then you'll have a better picture of how you actually did once the month ends. Just a thought :). Anyway, I'm so glad to have you back! Whatever works for YOU will help you achieve your goals in the long run!

ah. i see. i used to have specific goals when i was tracking everything in my "other goals" section, but then i stopped doing it because it was so time consuming. it wasn't practical for my life. however, the goals were a little different then the ones i just made. i tend to be an overplanner and i'm trying to be more spontaneous, so i think if i make it too strict then ill end up getting stressed out because "today is tuesday and i have to do 30 mins on the treadmill and 30 mins in the pool on tuesdays". i had a massive calendar where i literally said what exercises i would do every day of the month for several months... but i stopped doing that too. i'm going to see how this type of goals setting/self reflection goes and then alter as needed. however, i do like how your goal process holds you accountable so that you can clearly say yes or no if you met them. i might need to go in that direction if i start getting wishy washy about if im meeting my goals. thanks for sharing how you do your goals.

Sounds like you are going to be a busy gal.

For me, goals need to be specific. Such as: 16,000 steps per day minimum Sunday through Friday. 20,000 minimum Saturday with one outdoor walk of 1 1/2 miles. See what I mean. Very specific. Then, I can't kind of, maybe, perhaps possibly make it or not. LOL

Good luck on meeting all of your goals in June.
