Life happens

Monday, July 10, 2006

You'll have to forgive me. Life happened.

You know something, it's been a long weekend. I didn't get a thing done that I wanted to get done. Didn't get to the gym all weekend. Didn't do ab work. Didn't run. I made sure I ate well, except for the drive home Saturday when I was mindlessly snacking.

Here's what happened. My son got his first job, counselling at a summer camp. I had to drive him up to the camp. 3 hrs in the car to drive him to the high desert. We spent the rest of Friday in probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, and I'm including the dives I stayed in with my frat brothers from my college days. After sleeping on a brick (This bed was that hard), we travelled to a children's science center. That was fun and my younger daughter got to climb on a rock wall (Yeah, I don't know why it was there either. Maybe it was for all of the kids that didn't want to go, but their parents brought them anyway) we found a seismic sensor and I got to create an earthquake by jumping up and down (Insert fat joke here) By Sunday, I was wiped out.

Looking back I had to realize something: Life happened. Yeah, I wanted to stay on track this week. I've made very good progress these last seven weeks. But sometimes, life takes you down a different road. Yeah, I didn't hit the gym this weekend but making my kids laugh, when their dad was jumping up and down the floor making an earthquake, was worth it. Sure I slept the bed that everyone gets issued in Hell but my son made it to his first day of work on time. And not having his playstation on at 4 am is actually kind of cool.

The weekend wasn't a total loss. I did eat well most of the time and even my mindless snacking (Something I just realized I do when I drive long distances) was on healthier foods. I haven't weighed in yet, but my pants are getting loose. I may get to trash these pants soon. Also, my wife is noticing that there's less of me around. My plans are to be in the gym tonight and I'll weigh in then. If I went up this week, then I'll chalk it up to life lesson learned. Anyway journal, I'll check in with you later. I still need to get some work done, if I'm going to put on the shorts and do some running at lunch.
