Personal Trainer & Massage on Cruise

Monday, May 25, 2009

Don't know why I forgot to mention this before. Since we spent so much extra time on the boat, my mom and I attended several seminars held in the gym by the onboard personal trainer. He was a cute little guy from South Africa. Loved his accent. He was well built but short and with a baby face.

First seminar was Eat More, Weigh Less. What he was saying made perfect sense. All about how the body uses food to nurish itself and when you cut back on your calories & fat to much you will actually lose less weight. I knew all this before but was interested to see the actual science behind it all.

Second seminar was Detox Your Body. I was most interested to see how the toxins in our body surround our fat cells, our body then puts a protective layer of water around those cells and that's basically how we end up with cellulite. Getting rid of the toxins will help to lose weight, and inches. He also talked a lot about eating organics and natural products to reduce toxins in the body. It all makes sense.

We both decided to pay and have our metobolic rates taken. For $25 each we were hoocked up to this machine that sends electrical impulses through our body. We then recieve a printout telling us how much water weight we have, our BMI, and most interestingly enough the total amount of daily calories we should be eating to lose the right amount of weight. The goal weight indicated on the sheet was within 5 pounds of what I had determined my goal weight to be. Both my mom and I had calorie ranges of approx. 200 - 400 more than what we are currently eating. So we thought that was interesting. I'm going to start eating closer to the calorie range determined and see if I lose any weight faster. It's worth a shot. If not, I'll go back down to the range that SP has set.

I also purchased a detoxifing oil. It is also a muscle reliever that will help with muscle aches. He also tried to sell me a detoxifing bath salts but I knew I could find something that I could make myself for much, much cheaper. Which I did.

Detoxifing bath receipe:
1 cup Epsom Salt
1 cup Sea Salt
2 cups Baking Soda
arometharopy oil of choice

Mix all togeather in sealable jar. Makes enough for about 16 baths. Much cheaper than the $18 per bath that the stuff on the ship was.

On our last day, the spa offered a 50 minute full body massage for $69.00 only to the people participating in the final jackpot bingo!!! We were there. Mom and I both scheduled our massage for 8pm that night. I've only had one other massage and mom hasn't had one at all. It was devine!!! I have a lot of tension in my shoulders. I could actually hear popping noises when she massaged that area. She went back to it several time and the popping noise decreased but did not go away completely. She said I had a lot of tension and toxins in that area and that I should try and continue with monthly massages. Also I had a lot of tension in my left calf. Which suprisingly is the leg where my knee always bothers me. So I'm going to start the detox baths and oils this week. Hopefully that will help to relieve some of this tension and also help to reduce the toxins and help me lose water weight and inches.

Anyone know of a good, inexpensive massage therapist? I think I may also call and double check with my health insurance.

I love Space Coast Massage School and Spa. We were going to go today but Karl is a tad sunburnt. lol. Not too bad now though. The recipe for the bath salts is what I did for the bath salts I gave out for christmas at the get together. The scent was super strong and not very relaxing (my opinion) though. It was my first try. I think it's something I'll have to get a groove for.

Can't wait to pick your brain about the detox issue. I have tons of cellulite. I didn't know that it was due to water around the fat cells. I just thought it was fat cells.

John and I still have gift certificates for massages that KRisty gave us for x-mas. We've only gone once before, but it was fantastic.

Wow! The massage sounds really nice! I've never had one done before, except by my husband, and you KNOW he doesn't concentrate on those shoulders. Ahem...

I've always been wary of detox stuff, beyond the drinking water and eating organics to flush them out, so let me know how the oil and bath salts work. At the very least, the oil's a muscle relaxer, so it'll be good to apply after runs!

I'm so jealous of you Jen! A massage sounds soooo good! I've been sore from all the running and would love to have someone massage the tension right out of me. I know I hold alot in my neck and shoulders as I can feel the knots.

How many calories are you supposed to be eating??? I've been wondering about mine, because Sparkpeople says I should eat 1750-2100 a day, which seems like a lot, but I've been sticking to 1700-1900 the last couple of weeks and still losing weight, but maybe it's right afterall?

    That all sounds very interesting!

I recently had a massage by someone located on Eyster Blvd, across the street from Kennedy Middle School. I don't remember her pricing, but I have it marked on a paper in my car - I'd go get it, but it's raining now! I seem to remember that the pricing seemed pretty reasonable. If you'd like more information about her, let me know. I especially liked that she was surprised by my age because she thought I looked around the same age as her. (She's 35 and I'm 46!)

Linda is a great massage therapist but I don't know how cheap.. She works at Pro Health and fiteness by Holmes Hospital. You could also try Space Coast Massage School.
