Gluten Free

Friday, May 22, 2009

I am now gluten free for almost a month. Feel so much better but harder to find foods I like. I really miss sandwiches and pasta. I tried the corn pasta and it is wonderful. I have always loved a good sandwich, so that is the hard part.

Sami's bakery in Tampa, Fl. You can order online.Millet and millet and flax seed bread. They have rolls roo! They call them hamburger buns but, you know how that is! Very good! Best bread I have ever had! Not bad in calorie department either! Check it out. My husband is not gluten free and he eats my bread every day! He has stopped buying "regular" bread and only eats mine.

I went wheat-free (not gluten-free) last year for about 6 months but it didn't seem to help me much. Along the way, I had some gluten-free stuff but the "bread" they have was really awful IMHO and for me, toast for breakfast is a mainstay of my diet so I ate spelt bread and loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that when I added wheat back into my diet, I've continued to eat spelt bread. I also really love the kamut and spelt pastas. Another idea is to try rice pastas.

Also, some restaurants other gluten-free items. In Canada, Pizza-Pizza offers gluten-free crust so you might want to do some research on that.

Good luck.
