I've been gone a long time...

...yet, here I am again, giving it one last try. Two months ago I was feeling so depressed and hopeless and out of control that I was considering the lap band surgery. I saw a young woman who lost half of her body weight and I thought maybe that's the way I'll have to do it too... but I started to do the research and I didn't like how life was after the surgery, so I thought I would try one last thing before surgery... REHAB.

I went to Structure House in Durham, NC and it has changed my life forever. I am on track for losing 1% of my body weight per week and it will take 15 - 18 months to reach my goal of 155 pounds (the high end of the "normal" weight range). But I did not learn to diet. I learned that diets always fail because we don't learn a new way of eating AFTER the weight is lost. The new tools I've picked up are going to be used the rest of my life, and are too numerous to mention today.

I just wanted to say, I'm here, I'm back, I'm exercising, I'm choosing to eat nutritional meals that are planned in advance, no snacking before or after meals and I feel hopeful... and this feeling has been with me for a month now, this is a moderate, balanced and reasonable long term plan for me... no more looking for the quick fix, the instant cure...

Ok, then, enough for now, time to get off my soap box and prepare lunch! I keep my meals in the Structure House diary so I won't be using the SparkPeople menu options, but I'll track weight, measurements, exercise, water, etc...
