Day 7

Saturday, May 16, 2009

I've very disappointed today. I went over on my fat intake and went under on my carb. and protein intake. I just don't get it. I'm trying my best and still failing. I will not give up. I will learn how to eat right. I will put this is the "Oh well" column of my life and move on. But i can't help the feeling that tomorrow's weigh-in might not be so good.

In the same way that you do not lose weight in one day just because you are eating better, your body is not aware of how much of each of the three core nutrients you are eating each day (provided you are not starving). Instead of beating yourself up about being under a range one day, try to aim for your weekly averages to be the middle of each range. If you follow the government guidelines for determining your nutrient intakes, you will see what it is the middle of the range that SP gives you for your calorie range.

There are some easy fixes for you and your children. Instead of bacon, try canadian bacon for breakfast. Cutting sugary drinks from your diet will make it much easier for you to stay within your calorie range and is much better for you. Try Sprite Zero, or a single serving of Sprite until you are ready to swear off the sugary beverages altogether. I love popcorn, too, but it is easy to cut out some fat by selecting lighter butter or air popping your own! My family loved fresh popped popcorn when I was young, and I am sure your girls would love a healthy family snack like popcorn.

I know it seems impossible right now, but making your food choices to fit your needs will get easier as you start to learn the balance of nutrients in each food that you like to eat. Try filling out your daily food log in the morning, before you eat anything. I think you will find that you can eat quite a lot on 1200-1400 calories with good planning and plenty of vegetables. If you know that you are going to have a busy day, throw snacks into your bag, or even a sandwich for lunch! Having good choices on hand will make it easier for you to be satisfied within your limits and keep you from having popcorn and soda for lunch.

Good luck on your journey, and remember that message boards are here to help! I am sure that any question you will have, someone else will have had, and can help you through.
