I'm improving my fitness, and my primary workout method is my treadmill. I'm fairly consistent on the weekends, but less so during the week. I knew that my stamina on the treadmill had not been what I wanted (15min @ 2.2mph = 0.55mi), and I didn't understand why I could walk farther outside than I could on the treadmill. My knees have been bothering me more in the last week, so I decreased the incline on my treadmill, and wow what a difference! I increased the speed and duration today (60min @ 2.61mph [on average] = 2.61mi), and it was awesome! I felt great! I could've actually gone longer, had I wanted. I'm so proud.

One of the motivational tools I've made is a list of "Reasons to Walk." Every morning when it's time to get up and work out, there are plenty of excuses to sleep in (I'm too tired, I didn't sleep well, I have class tonight so I won't see [info]mmerriam so I should snuggle him now, etc.). So I made a list to counter those excuses, and it hangs on the wall next to the treadmill, which I can see from bed. Here is my list of Reasons to Walk:

Improve fitness
Increase stamina/endurance for physical activity, travel, adventures, hiking
Increase lifespan through overall health
Decrease back pain and increase core strength
Encourages me to do knee exercises -> Decrease knee pain
Sleep better
Encourages me to eat healthier (to not undo benefits of my hard work)
Increase energy levels
Possibly decrease migraines
Potential weight loss benefits:

* clothing would fit better
* look better
* feel better
* healthier
* don't get hot so easily
* more energy

Increase self-confidence
Feel pride in my accomplishments
Decrease stress, anxiety, and depression
Meet new people at walking events
Inspire/encourage others
Support charities through walking events, like Race for the Cure
Make loved ones proud of me
Can share with loved ones and friends (do together)
Decrease embarrassment about my lack of fitness
Earn more SparkPoints

Explore the Twin Cities through walking events
Watch tv/movies on the treadmill
Less time/money spent on health care

I wanted to share all this because I'm proud of the progress I've made. And now that I know I can do more on the treadmill, I am increasing my goals. So I'm telling you guys so you can keep me honest. Any support/encouragement/nagging is welcomed and appreciated. If you feel like leaving me a comment, I will print it and hang on the wall next to my other Reasons to Walk, because awesome supportive friends are another great reason!
