Hello Plateau... didn't we just say Goodbye?!

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

It's true... after weighing in last with a loss of 2pounds... I weighed in this week and at first it showed a gain of 4!? FOUR!? What?! Are you even kidding me?! So - I weighed in again the next day and it was down 2pounds - but still not where I was last week!? Ugh?! Just when I thought I had said goodbye to Mr. Plateau... here he is again! He is a persistent little guy but I still have hopes of shaking him off soon! I have my first ever 5K on Sunday and while I will definitely walk parts of it - I am hoping to get a little jogging in this time and maybe by next year, I will be able to run the whole thing?! That's the goal anyway... I am battling what I suspect may be a shin splint - but I am not sure - it's not terribly painful - just annoying... so I am trying to balance rest with training - not an easy combo for me?!

I have been LOVING the Spring (almost summer-like) weather we have had the past few days! Temps in the high 70s to mid 80s... gorgeous sunshine, and blue skies, flowers and trees starting to be in bloom...

I had set my Reward for hitting that 75 pounds gone mark - but my sis didn't want to wait after hearing a few testimonies about the benefits of using a heart rate monitor so we went out today to purchase one...

We just got a cheap one to start and I am off to workout and see how it works! While we were there... I decided that I should have a pair of shorts for this nicer weather that are not my workout clothes - but I didn't want to spend much $$$ on clothes... I found this nice little pair for $10!

Not too bad... AND - notice - they are a size 12!!! Yay!

Spark On and Happy Spring!!!

OK - a real quick update... I did the SAME workout today that I did on Wednesday - using my Heart Rate Monitor. On Wednesday, it read that i burned 968 calories... and today, it said 925. So I think it is really pretty accurate! Mostly it was a bit off I think because I was noticing more when I was out of the Fat Burning Zone and I really didn't pay attention to that on Wednesday! So - there ya go... I am sticking with what my Heart Rate Monitor says - at least for a couple of weeks and we'll see if adjusting those burned cals requires me to change my ranges - and if so - if this helps to push me through this plateau... I will keep you all posted!

Nuts - don't you hate a plateau?!? However, are you measuring yourself? Sometimes I don't lose in lbs., but I might have lost a 1/2 inch or so somewhere else. When I've seen how far I have come since December, I think I've done better in the inch dept. than the lbs. dept!

But good for you on getting a h.r. monitor. I love mine - it's a must-have! Good for you!

Love your spring pics- really beautiful :)
Also love the new heart rate monitor! I'm wanting one too but it's not in the budget right now. Where did you find yours?
And a big Yay You!!! on the size 12s!

OK - just an update on the new heart rate monitor... I will have to do the same workout and see how close the numbers are next time... I did Coach Nicoles' Cardio Workout DVD (i do three of the routines twice in a row for a total of 60 minutes of cardio - plus warm up and cool down portions...) According to Spark - my cals burned were 590, but my heart rate monitor says cals burned were 968!? That is quite a bit of difference?! Plus - I noticed that most of my cardio time was in the Cardio or Endurance Zones and what I really want is to stay more in the Fat Burning Zone... so the struggle is to work less hard?! LOL?! This doesn't compute for me?! I plan on taking it easy tomorrow (a pre-planned 'off' day...) and doing the same workout on Friday - so I will see how close the cals burned are compared to today (and compared to Spark!)

Anyway - I will keep ya posted!

Don't you just hate those plateaus? I felt like my scale was broke. I have been stuck at the same weight for four weeks of weigh-ins (four weeks)!!! No matter how strick I was or if I went over in calories, the scale was not budging. Finally this morning my scale fixed itself (LOL!) and showed a 1 pound loss. Although I was wanting to see more, I will take the one pound loss. Hopefully this is the beginning of more loss for me. I am so close to my goal weight.
Love the pictures. I am so glad to see the flowers and blooming trees.
WooHoo! Smaller size jeans.

Love the beautiful outdoor pictures! I so hear you on the plateau. My problem is I haven't been so strict on the eating so I know that is effecting things. I really need to buckle down and quit giving in. I am irritated with myself. I hope we can bust through this and start making progress again permanently.
