You know how the old joke goes..."At my age, my body and my fat have become good friends. They don't say good-by easily". How very very true! I'm over half way to my goal but things are S-L-O-W-I-N-G down and it's hard some days to keep plugging away. I've been hitting those darn plateaus and have been trying all the "tricks" to break them....eating to the high end of my calories, and then then low end, varying my exercise type, varying the length of my exercise..always trying to "fool" my body and jumpstart that metabolism. Well my body REALLY loves it's fat and it seems to be very comfortable hanging on to it.
I had a big break through this weekend. My hubby and I dug out our bikes and I mean DUG THEM OUT. They'd been buried for years because I was in no shape to ride. We headed for a local bike trail and ended up spending a beautiful afternoon together biking in the country....great for the body, the soul, and the marriage.
We surprised ourselves by actually going over 14 miles and when we returned to the van, I was STARVED!! I could hardly wait to get home and eat. I had to be careful to watch myself but I stayed within the calories and the next morning, I dropped a lb. Since then, I've noticed that I've been hungrier and have had another energy boost. Went running some yesterday and dropped anther 1/2 lb. in just 3 days. I think this is what it feels like when your metabolism is finally working again. It's been so long, that I've forgotten! I love it! Finding our bikes again was like digging out a buried treasure. It may be an old rusty clunker, but it's solid gold in my eyes!
Now this may not happen again and I'm sure I'll be heading into another plateau soon, but I've learned another "trick"...have a day where you really burn a lot of calories. Dare to try something that you didn't think you could physically handle and you may surprise yourself, and your body!
