Rocky Balboa Training and Hurt

My legs hurt. More specifically my gluts, hamstrings, and quads ache. I have been ramping up my workouts for the 12K race coming up. While I may not be a runner - I still have to get my bod up to walking that far. I have been doing lots of walking up and down hills, Wii workouts, massive weed pulling (squatting down to pull the entire root structure out). I can almost hear the theme to "Rocky" playing in the background while I do all the "old school" training (think of any of the Rocky movies where he has to do unorthodox training to get in shape for the big fight). I keep pushing harder, longer, for just a bit more because it is these muscles that are going to carry me through the race, up Doomsday Hill, and to the waiting cheers of my husband and children at the finish line.
My pride is a bit hurt. I stepped on the scale with no budging. I can logically say that the muscle is retaining fluid as part of the repair process, that I am shrinking in inches (clothing fitting better), denser is better....but the hope that the scale would reflect more changes too is a bit disappointing.
I can't let the scale get in my head. If I allow the focus become the scale - then the fight is over. I have lost the real reason for the fight - not to be just a number - but to be the best that I can be. I have to keep that "Eye of the Tiger" and go for what is really important.
Resolve refocusing .... "Gonna Fly Now" ringing in my ears...Trumpets becoming louder...Need to find some stairs to race up....
