Errr, "Fat and Useless"

Monday, April 06, 2009

I heard someone call herself "fat and useless" today. It saddened me a great deal. Not just because it obviously came from a sad place, but also because it is frustrating to always see the adjectives 'fat' and 'useless' used together. This individual was externalizing something the world tends to reinforce often.
While i would argue that very few people are actually all together 'useless.' I would argue even more strongly that, even if by chance someone is useless, it has nothing to do with their weight.
This implication that because someone is overweight, they are somehow less productive, or less needed is so FALSE it infuriates me.
In frustrates me that people's weight are seen to be a reflection of every aspect of their life, which is truly not the case.
People are people regardless of their shape, colour, hometown they deserve the same respect.
ERRR, since when did body size or type dictate someone's ability.

I don't know when that happened, but I've heard it said by others two, my mother included. It breaks my heart to hear her of all people say something like that. Hopefully, this will change someday soon :-)
