First Cardio, and the effects after wards:

Monday, March 30, 2009

I've been a member of SparkPeople for almost if not 3 weeks now, and yesterday I finally found the time to do my first cardio workout. It was rough. I wasn't able to keep up with it. I had to stay at the low impact for about 95% of it. Just shows how out of shape I am. I've lost weight in the past, I actually lost 50lbs, but I never got in shape at the same time, probably why 40 of it came back. The good thing about this cardio workout that I found is that it is so simple that I can do it without the video. That is a good thing because I am very self conscious about working out. I can walk, ride a bike, or hike in public or when my fiance' is around, but an ACTUAL WORKOUT, I can not do in front of anyone. That is why I haven't been able to do it yet. My fiance' went to visit his father to help him with some yard work for a few hours yesterday and I was alone for the first time in a long time. So...I got started on it.
I never realized exactly how out of shape I was. So, that was even more motivation. My children should be coming back in a few months, and I want the energy to be able to play with them. So, what I plan on doing is getting up in the mornings before my fiance' gets up and working out then in the living room so he can not hear or see me, and just doing to from memory which I can do as long as I have a clock. I'm looking forward to going this each morning when I get up. It may not be much working out, but hey, it's 10 minutes a day more than I used to do.
I also want to get a few exercise equipment pieces and put in the garage so I can work out there with no one watching me. If I can get some of those maybe I can add another workout set for a little longer after I get home from work. Maybe 30-45 minutes.
The effects of this workout were good at first, but being diabetic it did eventually send my sugar pretty low. I'll have to adjust my insulin for my workouts now. I have a Dr.'s appointment on April 1st and hopefully I can get on better insulin and that should cure that in one easy step.
I was also exhausted the rest of the day, but I know that the more I do the cardio the better I will feel. So, just because I was exhausted yesterday doesn't mean I don't want to start my days out with it. I was a little disappointed when my alarm clock went off at 6am and my fiance' was up like an early bird. He usually NEVER gets up with my alarm. So...I had to cancel my workout this morning. I'm going to walk after work no matter what tonight to make up for it as much as I can.
I'm still looking forward to all the workouts in the future. There is really no better way to start a day than getting your heart pumping. It's gotta be better than coffee!!
