Avoiding too much sodium

Thursday, March 19, 2009

I have heard people comment about it's so hard to keep the sodium below the max level. I want to tell people it is very easy to do when you are eating correctly. It's common for me to be below 1000mg of sodium on a daily basis there are many times that it is below 750mg. I have stopped eating processed foods 98% of the time. I buy fresh meats, fresh/frozen veggies, fresh fruits,. This is what I mainly eat. I have been avoiding cereals, frozen meals, eating out, canned foods, processed meats (salami, pepperoni, sausage, ham, and bacon due to high sodium). By doing this you can keep your sodium level down.

It depends upon the cereal. Some are high others are very low. I know frosted mini-wheats are only like 5mg per serving. But some of the other cereals can be higher...but cereals are certainly not as bad as some of the other culprits out there.

Good advice! I have a problem with too much sodium. I always go over my daily limit. I do depend a lot on canned goods. Soups and beans, mostly. Oh yeah, and cereal too. I didn't realize cereal was high in sodium.
