Eye flashes: in my case, nothing to worry about
Thursday, March 12, 2009
I had a little scare Tuesday afternoon--had to leave work around 2:30 to see my eye doctor about eye flashes (like miniature lightning bolts) that I started seeing around the edges of my vision, mostly in my left (more myopic but dominant) eye. I'm thankful that my doctor took lots of time to do a very thorough checkup on my retinas (& then charged me just $25). He said that such flashes do need to be checked out but in this case do not indicate retinal detachment. If they had, he said, I would also have had a massive floater in that eye.
Despite the dilation of my pupils, I was able to attend my poetry workshop that night. And since then I have had almost no flashes.
The other good news is that my diligence with PT exercises is paying off! This morning my therapist said that I'm making excellent progress; she gave me two new exercises & says I can discontinue all but two of the earlier ones. I'll continue a couple of special stretches after the strengthening exercises, though, to help my muscles cool down--& because they feel really good.
Soon I'll be back to regular strength training!
