ALL THINGS COME TO AN END

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

I was looking over my food tracking for the last three months when a flash of lightening struck me. It suddenly dawned on me that I hadn't eaten a single potato chip in all that time! I rechecked and excitement began to rise up as I took stock of a miracle that happened under my very nose. Me, the champion of the potato chip (or crisps as I call them) had been weaned off this life long favourite snack and comforter!!!!!

As far back as I can remember I have eaten at least a packet a day. All flavours! I would sit and finish a 200g pack without noticing. I would get up in the middle of the night and finish off a couple of 30g packs - just to keep me going till morning. Moreover, it seems that my habit of what my daughter calls an 'itchy mouth' has been tamed. Whereas I would just keep putting bits of things in my mouth all day, eat for the kicks, I have reached a place where I snack once in the afternoon. The nutrition tracker is a powerful tool for inhibiting foolish excess!

I eat rice cakes in place of chips. At the beginning I finished off a packet a time. Now I eat about 3 or 4. I replaced toffees with sugar & fat free sweets, eat a fruit or a raw vegetable (carrots, cauliflower, cucumber sticks) or nuts when the 'itchy' urge arises. I still have loads of improvements to make - portion control and balance of nutrients for example but hey, I feel sooo good about this change and I can feel confident that I'll get better as time goes on. Thanks sooo much SP!
