Defining Moments: I Got This!!!

Monday, March 09, 2009

Let me start by saying that George Lopez is one of my favorite comedians! His standup routines can have me in tears! I also admire his courage. He overcame and impoverished childhood and a deadly illness a few years ago when his wife Ann became a rarity by being a match when he needed a kidney donor. Truly a love match!
But his life story isn't what this is about. It's about one of my favorite G.Lo expressions: "I GOT THIS!!" I love the way he says that on his show! Whenever he's absolutely sure he's right about something, he says "I Got This!" If you've never seen the show, it's in reruns now on Nick so watch him sometime..
My Lifetyle Change/weight loss journey began before I came to SparkPeople. It actually began in February 2008 when I weighed 210 lbs so by the time I joined Spark in April 2008 I'd already lost 22 lbs. I'd lost 20 lbs several times before using crash diets and other get thin fast schemes and I'd always gain the weight back plus extra. In February, I decided like so many of you that I was "Through Being the Fat Girl" and my doctor signed me up for a program run by a local hospital. It was a great start! I'd spend 10 minutes each on all cardio equipment, my b/p and pulse was monitored through out the session and I had nutritionists, nurses, licensed therapists and doctors on the premises.
Then I came here and realized I needed more cardio and strengthening so I switched to a gym. The pounds had already started coming off and Spark was just the boost I needed. Without the motivation, sharing and support from my Spark teammates, I wouldn't have made it this far and I thank all of you. You're my brothers and sisters, I love you all!
When I started reading about all the hard work some were putting in, I realized I needed to step my game up.
Then I got bold enough to hook on a pedometer and put some mileage on it. At first, 1 mile was like a hike up Mt. Kilamanjaro! I could barely make it! Then it got easier and I added more to my route. I walked past Krispy Kreme with the hot doughnut sign on, the smell of fresh blueberry pastries(my nose detects varieties) wafting through the air and it didn't even faze me! There was a time I would have taken money with me to jake sure I'd have enough to stop by on my way home but it didn't even faze me! That's was my second "I Got This!!" The first came when I got past the 20 lb mark.
There have been other "I Got This!!" moments. When I was a size 22 I purposely bought a skirt in size 18 and when I could zip that skirt with ease I said "I Got This!!" That skirt was recently put into a pile of things to go to goodwill because it's falling off now.
Recently, the scale said 157 which would put me 7 lbs from my goal weight and again I said "I Got This!!" just the way George Lopez says it. Another crucial moment was when I went shopping in a non-plus size store. You couldn't tell me Jack! I was buying jeans in a Misses/Jr size store!

To all who read this blog and have had your defining moment, I want you to say it with me "I Got This!!" Tell me about the moments!
If Mickey D's, Taco Bell, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Krispy Kreme don't do it for you like they used to,
If those size 20 jeans are falling off,
If you can do 45 minutes on the elliptical at level 5, the treadmill at speed 5 with a 10% incline and feel good sweating out your perm,
If you're ready to swim the English Channel,
Let me hear you say..."I GOT THIS !!!"

This is a great blog. Such an inspiration. I had an "I Got This " moment just last week. There are no short cuts to health. Take life one day at a time and always forgive yourself any mistakes.

    Loved this blog!!!

For me, I think being able to walk a mile without thinking I would die was huge. Now, I actually think a 5k walk is a little too easy!! And I used to eat Burger King for breakfast, Fazzoli's for lunch and McDonald's for dinner. Now, an every once in a while fast meal is enough for me.

Love celebrating "I got this" moments with you!!

I have been at this weight loss thing for yrs. I went to a Dr appt the scale tipped at 245. My first thought was this is not good started the veggie and fruit thing for my own reason I switched Dr's the first weigh in at his office was 234 I had all sorts of aliments ,his first thing was If I loose weight things would be better, so I came home got active again on SP reading all the success stories so I said I can do this. I kept on with the Fruit and Veggies started to walk daily, my next appt was six wks later I weighed in at 220 that was my I GOT THIS MOMENT. My second I GOT THIS MOMENT was at JC Penny when I tried on size 16 jeans and could fasten them without a struggle. I have packed away all the 18W and 20W. another I GOT THIS moment was Monday the scale tipped at 216. Yep I GOT THIS emoticon
