An e-mail came through back in early January from a gym notifying me of a contest called the Valley's Biggest Loser. It would last for 12 wks and the only requirement was to submit an application and $39. The application had questions such as why I shouldbe the BL and what I have tried in the past. I was at work so I jsut wrote from the heart. I didn't ask advice on how to make myself sound more marketable or anything. We had to pay $39 for entrance fees and another mission of the contest was to raise funds for a local non-profit group. I chose Michelle's Place, a breast cancer resource center. I had heard of the company from when I walked the 3 Day a few yrs ago. Unfortunately, I was unable to fundraise and was worried that this would affect my chances of making it as a contestant.
Fast forward to today: the choosing of the contestants. We were told that we could bring our supporters with us. So my mom agreed to go with me. I weighed in at 2pm as last names with A-L were at that time. The rest of the alphabet was scheduled at 3pm. I was weighed in and had my picture taken. I don't remember my weight (I'll have to ask so I can log it on to my page). Then we were told to leave and come back at 5pm sharp. My mom and I went shopping and ate lunch at Chili's. I had the guiltless grill chicken sandwich and broccoli platter, yummy by the way. We then went back to the site and found our seats. The head person made some announcements and thanked the sponsors. He then announced the 4 people that were guaranteed a spot due to high fundraising amts. At this point, I am shaking and worried because I didn't fundraise. If I was to be chosen, I would be on the green team due to the city I lived in. Other surrounding cities were placed on my team and the black team. The first person called was a gentleman sitting right behind me. He was picked for the green team. Then a female was chosen for the black team. Then I heard what I had been praying for "next for the green team, Desirae Allen". Holy moly, did they really call my name?? Yep, they did!!! I jumped up and ran down the aisles, like a person chosen for the Price is Right!!! 17 more people were called for the black team and 16 for the green team. After the team members were chosen, we were dismissed to visit the sponsor booths and get goodies. From a dental office, the chosen contestants were given a certificate for free teeth whitening. Woo hoo!!! Then we took group pics, pics of the teams next to each other and individual pics next to the BL sign.
I am so excited and honored to be a member of the 1st annual Valley's Biggest Loser. I will be using the SP nutrition and exercise tracker to monitor my info. I joined 24 fitness so will be utilizing their facilities for water aerobics and any other classes and machines will help me reach my goal. As a contestant, I will go to a weekly nutrition class and twice weekly workout. We weigh in on Saturdays and the person with the lowest percentage of weight lost will be eliminated. It is my goal not to be eliminated. The person with the greatest weight loss percentage at the end of the contest will win $10,000. So if being healthy and fitting into smaller clothes isn't a big enough reward, the money will keep me eating healthy and working out.
