Backwards Walking Blog and My Own Hamstrings

...and let me tell you...with all this marathon training I cannot wait to get back to it.

While doing 12 miles on a TM today my hams were really getting tight. All I wanted to do was go the opposite direction. I run 4 and walk 1 and the last two miles I did exactly that. I slowed down and walked backwards and it felt great. It really took some pressure off them. Normally 12 doesn't bother me but today I was running after a long tempo day and I ran a faster pace trying to get it over with.

So, if you want to jack your HR up, get in some fun and creative cardio on the TM, try turning around. My blog has a link to my video on how to do it. :)

    I will tell my son-law and my daughter as they do the tread mill also frontwards. Never heard that way. You look amazing.

    Thanks for the idea of walking backwards on the treadmill. This is something that I'm going to try. I want to improve my leg strength for running especially the hamstrings, and quads so this might just do the trick.

    Hey PnP,

If you run a hard tempo and follow with a long run the next day it should always be an LSD (long slow distance). I usually try to save my LSD runs for the weekend because I have my husband home to watch my kids.

I would suggest a foam roller to work out those hams or a product called "The Stick" its awesome and they sell it at most running shops or online. I've done 5 marathons all together so if you have any questons feel free to give me a shout.

What marathon are you training for?

    I enjoy backwards walking on a incline in my neighbor. I love to feel the burn in the thighs and calves. And at work last night I was down another size in the scrub pants. emoticon It's working slowly, but surely. I will continue to be patient, positive, focused and determine to reach my goal.
