C25K W5D2 ~ Feb 19, 2009

Friday, February 20, 2009

I wish I would have started journaling my thoughts from day 1. I'll try to recap:

Having been on the treadmill just messing around for a couple of weeks, I started my C25K program at Week 3. I took an extra 15 minutes after each routine to up the incline and add the occasional hand weights. I was ecstatic when the scale told me I'd lost a quick 5 lbs! It also gave me the drive to keep going. I had increased my runs from 4 days per week to 6 and the duration each time from 45 minutes to an hour.

My Week 4 lasted a week and a half. I am runnin 6 days a week, for an hour each time and I still hadn't lost any more weight than my initial 5 lbs! I was not happy. I was definately losing steam. I was getting the "it's no use!" attitude. My husband turned that around for me. He gave me a great pep talk and huge kudos for what I've accomplished so far. Okay...so he motivated me to keep it up. I trekked onward...

W5D1 (2/17/09):
5 min run/3 min walk
5 min run/3 min walk
9 min run ...followed by upping the incline and using hand-weights.

W5D2 (2/19/09):
8 min run/5 min walk
12 min run ...followed by upping the incline and using hand-weights.

I can't believe that I'm finally in the middle of Week 5! This is probably my 4th "run" at the C25K program - I normally quit during Week 4 either from fear of Week 5 or just getting busy with the kids, family, work, errands,... just everyday life stuff. Not this time though. I'm sticking with it and am very proud of my progress. I am not impressed when I look at the scale though. I dropped a quick 5 lbs over the course of 2 weeks and haven't lost anything more. My clothes are fitting better (looser!) so I know there's something happening. I just wish I'd see results on the scale!

Good for you to recap... I think somehow it makes us motivated or something.. still trying to figure it out myself! Congrats on the quitting smoking.. I quit too, just in Jan.. so I'm a NEWBIE!
Also new to this C25K thing.. working on it.. grrrr.. frustrating.. sooo.. the thing about the weight loss? Or rather, NO weight loss? Read some blogs re this cause I think it has to do with either ONE: Increase Protein intake TWO: increase calories OR you are adding muscle; which weighs WAY more than fat!
DON'T look at the scale.. I swear.. DON'T do it! AFTER you've gone down in size AND feel fabulous for getting to week six.. DO NOT look at the scale! I swear! It should be gauged on how you feel.. how your clothes fit... that sort of thing.. The scale will more often than not, bum you out when you are upping your fitness level.. the weight will come off.. change up ur intervals.. increase the speed, or length, or whatever.. OR just plain increase ur protein and see what happens, otherwise DON'T worry about that stupid scale.. the only time it ever goes down for me is when my hubby gets on it! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! SOOO proud of you!
