GNC Cleanse: The Review

Last Sunday I started the GNC 7 day cleanse.

Saturday I took my children to the movies and ate half a bucket of popcorn. I was up 2 lbs when I started the cleanse.

The only difference I made to my diet was cutting out dairy otherwise I ate my regular, Spark way.

After 2 days on the cleanse, I did feel a bit bloaty and gassy. After that, I was fine. I think I am more regular now, but the big thing, I lost a total of 4 lbs. The 2 I gained plus an additional 2.

Since much of the cleanse is internal, I can't say whether or not it helped clear toxins out of my body. I figure it can't hurt.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you talk to a physician or someone at a nutrition store first.

    Susan, it was interesting to hear about your cleanse since I am doing a 3-week one from Herbalife. At the start of week 3 I had some "blocked pipes" issues, but otherwise have felt pretty much the same throughout. I'm seeing the scale go down but that could be due to SP eating and exercise. Wonder if these things really work or not...

    Shera: My current eating program is to focus on getting in 4-5 fruits and veggies a day, choosing lean protein. I try and eat beef only one time a week. I choose whole grain carbs for the most part. I focus on healthy fats: olive oil, canola oil. That is about it. I eat between 1300-1600 calories a day. I used to have a great deal of muscle. I played sports in high school and lifted weights in my 20s. These strength workouts have really helped me develop muscle again. My clothes are definitely fitting me much better.

    Melly: My sil's doctor recommended it to her. She has always had issues. I chose to do it based upon my sil's advice. This cleanse is about detoxifying your organs, not just "cleaning out the pipes." I would do it again. I will probably do it yearly. The program comes with a recommended diet plan. Most of the plan is what I am already doing through Sparks. However, dairy is something that was not recommended. The cleanse diet called for soy instead.

    This was interesting. I've often thought of cleansing but worried what would happen. Can you give me an idea of your regular diet? You are near my age (I will be 45 next month!) and you started losing about where I am at so I'm thinking we are a lot alike (at least in some ways physically). I am amazed at the amount of exercise you are doing and remember you are gaining muscle. I am someone who naturally HAS muscle and when I work out my body doesn't lose weight like I'd like right away. But my clothes will fit a whole lot differently. Especially my legs and arms are somewhat muscular. Not like bulky.

    Hi Susan - Thanks for blogging about your experience with the GNC 7-day cleanse. Was this recommended by your doctor? I am just curious what made you consider trying a cleanse? Was it for a jump-start to get some weight shedding or just to try it or.... just wondering. Would you do it again? I'm glad to hear you still ate your regular Sparky food plan with all food groups (except the dairy - was that a requirement?)
