Something is different

Friday, February 13, 2009

There is something strange going on in my house, last night I suspected that something was different, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I've checked all the rooms, there is no one here that doesn't belong. Everyone is here that does belong. But I keep getting the feeling that there is something.... but what? My younger son is severely autistic, he is like a 5 y/o in and 18 y/o body. The problem is that he is so quick to pick up on even the slightest change (heaven forbid I don't have his cup placed right in the cupboard etc.) so he really notices any changes at all. I didn't say anything, just went along with our normal routine, while I'm cooking & getting everything ready for dinner we listen to music... we have a compromise, he doesn't get Barney, but I listen to a Disney Mania CD that he loves. It was while the music was playing that he noticed that difference in the air too. He ran to the kitchen asking “Mommy, can I dance too?” That's right! I was keeping time to the music as I moved around the kitchen, there is energy in the air! The spark is spreading! As we “danced” around the kitchen dinner was cooked (he tried to find the fish that I said was cooking but couldn't find the fish sticks anywhere! I had to explain that “Mommy's cooking REAL fish” and he loved it. The table got set and before we knew it we had danced dinner to the table.

It sounds like fun! When I dance around the kitchen my son rolls his eyes. Hopefully, you've started something new for you and your son to do together. Delightfully dancing dinnertime.
