All I can say is "Wow!" We just had the worst ice storm this area has ever seen, and the devastation is horrific. Our power didn't come back on until very late last night, and I have been missing being on this site. I'll never catch up on what I missed, so I'm just starting over today.
We have a wood stove and a grill, and lots of candles and oil lamps which were all put to good use while we were in the dark. My husband had to take his chainsaw everywhere he went to cut his way in and out. I'm so sad looking at all the trees. The landscape looks like the aftermath of a tornado. Very few trees have a top left, and many are totally destroyed. We lost a beautiful cedar tree and an elm that my husband worked with for several years to get it healthy. Today was a sad day at our house, because he had to cut the elm down. It survived dutch elm disease to succomb to an inch and a half of ice.
The first morning after the rain started it looked totally surreal outside; we listened to trees falling and limbs breaking for almost 3 days. There isn't a neighborhood that hasn't been hit. A lot of people are still without power, and some are homeless due to storm damage to their houses. We need a lot of prayers for the cleanup, because it's going to be a long job.
