What does 20 pounds look like?

Saturday, January 24, 2009

Michael and I went to town today on our usual Friday jaunt, and on the way there I asked him if he would help me out with a quest. I seek to know what 20 pounds looks like, now that I've lost them. Where DOES all that fat go? Being a man of adventure, he quickly agreed to help me. That and I promised him lunch and a mocha breve *grin*

Well, our first stop was Sam's Club, where I knew they must have 20 pound somethings all over the store! Now, the second part of my quest was to capture a picture of said 20 pounds for a post here. Get the picture without getting arrested, asked to leave the store for being just plain goofy and/or getting stared at more than we usually do. Easier said than done, you ever been to Sam's on a Friday afternoon?

So I looked at the meat counter, but that wasn't it at all, 20 pounds of fat doesn't look like that. I picked up a package of nice looking lean steaks and put them in my cart (see security people we are too actually shopping!). I looked in the frozen food aisle, but there were too many people lurking about snarfing up free samples of pizza and chicken cordon bleu and breakfast burritos, and premixed, prebattered, preshaped, prefried, quick frozen stuff this fat girl in recovery lived on BSP, Before SparkPeople.

Then, I got to the diary aisle....AHA Butter! Pounds and pounds of butter. Okay, how to stack it up and get a picture.... looking around..uhm.. There, get 5 of the 4-packs of butter, blue, not red, and stack them on the washing machine over there on display. MIchael aka Mr. Adventure/Swiss Army Man (that's a blog to come), gets 5 of the 4-packs and takes them across the aisle and stacks them on the washer. I have the camera ready and take a picture. No good, the wrap on the package is too shiny, get a white spot from the flash of the camera. Okay, take all the butter and put it back in the case...

Oh Look! 5 pound tubs of butter, they are huge! Take 4 of those and put them over on the washer, nevermind those people staring at us, they don't live high adventure like we do! *Click* perfect picture, now put them back in the case and we can get the rest of our shopping done, I'll be right over here while you do that *sweet smile* Let go of my coat, Michael... I wasn't walking away, really!

That was our quest for this week and the resultant picture is below. I can't even carry 20 pounds of butter around without a cart. I know that I can move better now than before I lost it. I know I feel better, I know that I really don't care where it went, it is not welcome back. I know that I am looking forward to stacking up 25 pounds of somethings up and taking a picture. Perhaps it could be an every 5 pound thing? We shall see...

I am a visual person too, and have actually thought of buying butter for every pound lost and put it in the freezer......then after each 10 pounds, take a picture and put back in the freezer until the 10 pound segments (taking a picture after each) and then donating the butter after 50 pounds to a shelter. Then start over on the next 50 pounds.......I have a lot to loose! LOL!

What a fun and goofy idea! I can just see you giggling the whole time! ANd you can do that with anything... Even just losing 5 lbs.. Pick up a 5 lb weight and get a "feel" for what is gone. The visual is great!

Hi there, sorry I don't have a pic of moi, yet, but just read your blog, i'm far from losing my 20 l bs. but have lost 6 and even that i just think of 6 lbs of butter. omg, can't wait till i reach 10 so you keep up the good work.. Did you ever see that Oprah show when she came in with all that fat in a wagon and that was how much she had lost. I will never forget that.. I am a former Weight Watchers gal, and we used to compare the weight we lost to butter.. lol.. Good luck to you and will talk to you again I'm sure... Sue
