FIL update

Thursday, January 22, 2009

My FIL are glad the bombings ended, but no food, gas or petrol are allowed to come in to Gaza.
Israel do not want to end the occupation they also control the sea, so the fisher men can only go 50 meters out from the shore.
We all hope that president Obama will force Israel to end the blockade, but no one in Gaza believes hes has the guts to do it even he does have the power.
We all agree that Obama is very smart and that he is good at convincing people. So there are a tiny chance that he will change life to the better for the Gazans.
I was crying when I saw all the small kids at the hospital, wounded and barely alive. A 4 year old girl told that an Israeli soldier shot her while she stood just outside her home. She left her home after a bombing that killed her siblings. Her mother said that she didn't understand why they hit her home, no one in that family was fighting.
I don't know what other people call that, I do not call it war; I call it murder!

It is better in Gaza now, there has "only" been a few attacks from Israel after the war. I guess they have been to busy with the election. Our hope is that Obama will force them to accept a 2-state solution.

MARYAM-I was just reading some of your blogs, it is so hard for me to imagine what your FIL are going through I haven't heard much lately on the news about Gaza, are things better there?
I am on holidays this week and as the weather is still not great i am spending more time on the computer. As well we have started a "biggest looser" club at work, although I do not have alot of weight to loose I am trying again to be more aware of what I eat therefore I am visiting sparkpeople again. This is a great sight with lots of info. I have learned to blog as well. As I type this I am realizing that I am probably writing more info in an area where it was meant for a comment on what you blogged, sorry about that. I am going to have to check out where you live, my geography knowledge isn't the greatest. Have a great day. emoticon

Maryam, I don't know if this will help, but I read this in a book regarding faith and woul like to share it with you: Faith draws the poison from every grief, takes the sting from every loss, and quenches the fire of every pain; and only faith can do it.

yes you are right it is not always easy to understand. I know that if a neighboring country did occupy my country I would also fight like the people in Gaza. The problems started in Gaza when Israel took more land than they were given to live on after the ww. I personally have no idea why they were given land that belonged to other countries and surrounded by Muslim countries. Can you imagine what would happen if all the religions in the world would claim a country of their own?

Maryam, living in relative peace in the US, all this seems so distant and foreign (no pun intended). I think it's very difficult for Americans to understand the conflict between groups of people based on centuries of strife when our country is only a little over 200 years old. U.S. politicians seem to have the idea that if they can "bring democracy" to a country, all the problems will be over. They never take into account the deep feelings (religious or otherwise) that have been present in societies for millenia.

I too hope that President Obama can help make progress in the Mideast. It's all so complicated, isn't it?
