Celebratory and social eating.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

When I first met Ed, he loved to go out for a meal and a few drinks. It was scarey how fast I pudged up with social eating. We rarely go out when I am dieting. Thats great for our wallets but we miss being sociable and seeing our friends while dining out .

Week in and week out I can eat sensibly. However all that careful calorie counting flies out the window during the holidays and during special occasions. The more active you are socially, the more holiday gatherings and special occasions your invited to. Hence perhaps the origin of "fat and happy".

I would love to learn strategies to avoid weight gain and still enjoy celebrating and being social with friends.

Before going out to socialize with friends, have a meal. When you are with them, have a salad or something from the appetizer menu. Look for the articles on how to lose or maintain weight over holidays on SparkPeople too. They have plenty of ideas. But they will say to eat your meal before you go...a healthy one, and to fill up on water. That way what you do is socialize and not eat. Have your drink and maybe a salad or a dessert, but no more. Best wishes! emoticon
