Beware of the comfy clothes

Friday, January 16, 2009

I learned... the hard way of course.... that comfy clothes are not your friends. You know the ones I am talking about. Those oversized shirts and baggy sweats. You get lost in the comfort of them and don't realized the damage they are doing. They allow the inches and pounds to creep back on without your knowledge. Then you try and get into your normal clothes and say, " holy crap what is going on here, that darn dryer must have shrunk my pants again. Well they are not my security blanket any more... yes they still have a place in my life... I am not going to totally abandon them... but they need to be put in their place. Their place will be when I am exersizing or doing some other activity..... the rest of the time it is back to normal clothes for me. It is time to quit hiding and enjoying the comfort of those baggy clothes. I need to keep making small changes to move toward my goal and be successful. The time is NOW .... I need to seize the moment!!!!

First, thank you for your comment on my blog and encouragement.

True the baggy sweats and shirts don't encourage us to loose weight. However, if I had the choice of seeing an over weight woman in baggy sweat pants or skin tight stretch pants.....pahhllleezze! I vote for the baggy sweats.

While loosing hit thrift stores for interim clothes (of course I've been in "interim clothes for 8 years now LOL.)

I love the show "What Not to Wear" and they are always saying about how wearing clothes that actually fit, not baggy clothes, makes you look thinner. Under the baggy clothes people cannot tell and they assume you are larger than you actually are.
I'm sure you will look great, and don't forget the fun bright colors and shiny stuff like jewelry. Be fabulous!

I can totally relate to your blog!! I have been wearing scrubs to work for so long now, that wearing "street clothes" just feel binding and uncomfortable! And lots of evenings when I get home from work, if I don't have anywhere I need to go, I change straight from my scrubs into my jammies!

Cookie, great blog! I recently read Christopher Hopkins' book "Staging your Comeback"(you gotta be over 45 for this to make any sense, so skip it if it doesn't apply to you yet!) and one of the things he talked about is always looking your best. Even if it's just you at home alone for the day. His reasoning is #1 we deserve to see ourselves at ourbest and #2 if we do it daily, we believe it is true.

So out with the sloppy comfy clothes for me, and into things that are pretty or flirty, that make me feel thinner and pretty. Not old and frumpy. Then I see me as the thin me I wnt to be, not the fat me I am right now.

Keep up the great work!

Kate
