Surgeon's visit...

Thursday, January 15, 2009

I went to see the surgeon yesterday. My xrays look ok. My ankle is healing well BUT not as good as the surgeon would like at this point (6 weeks since injury and surgery) SO I have another NEW cast. The same kind as the last one. I keep this one on till my next visit to the surgeon on Feb. 4. Then he will xray again and re evaluate again. Starting next week I can start adding a little weight to my ankle as it feels ok. NOT TOO MUCH!!

I was real disappointed yesterday. I shed more than a few tears BUT I do not want the surgeon to just let me go to make me happy only to have problems in the future. It is for the best BUT so challenging on my spirit.

I still have real concerns about my function after all is said and done. My ankle was SOOOO swollen. The surgeon said that is to be expected as much as a year out. I was too afraid to try to move it so I am not sure where that is. I was also unable to weigh in. So three more weeks of the same with the exception of trying to get a better state of mind and accepting what is.

Thanks for the progress report, Tina. I know it must be discouraging, but at the same time he did have some positive things to say -"healing well" "add a little weight" and if it "take up to a year" I can understand that! A simple plantar fasciitus on my food took a year to heal You really did a job on that ankle and this is important -- you are so young. Crossing fingers that next visit will be better for you. Even though you couldn't weigh in (you can't stand on the scale on one foot? -- just wondering) you could use your next Dr.'s app't as a goal mark for something (water, journaling, staying under calories, whatever. )

Hang in there! We are all behind you.
