Morning Exercise

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

I've never been a morning person. Rolling back the covers and getting out of bed is as much exercise as I can muster. Actually, I've always thought my life would be vastly improved if the day would instead begin somewhere after 12 noon.

But there are only 24 hours in a day, and sometimes even the most cherished of traditions (sleeping in until the last possible moment), have to be abandoned in the face of a time crunch. Lately, I've been facing time crunches of all manner, shape and size. Bottom line: when I finally get all the tasks of the day finished, there's been so little time left. For me. To unwind. I've been getting in the 30 minute cardio and Coach Nicole's Boot Camp workout each day, but it's sometimes been a tense going. So, I made a plan that will more easily enable me to get in that exercise each day. It involves getting up earlier, and spacing the routine out through the day. I a morning person - someone who rises with a smile - this problem of mine is ludicrous. But to a non-morning person, my dilemma is seriously warm and toasty under-the-cover-stuff. What to do?

Well, this morning I got this middle aged backside out of bed 5 minutes earlier than usual. As the oatmeal did it's five minute magic in the microwave, I pedaled. True confession: I'm positively shocked that the deed was done.

Five minutes shaved off of the 30 minute nut. To me, this is a major achievement!

Tomorrow...I'm aiming for 10 minutes earlier, matched with 10 minutes of bicycling. The goal here: getting in as much morning cardio, as possible.
