My New Year's Resolution is to lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle. I am in the "Fast Break Stage" of the Spark Diet. I've been in this stage for one week and plan on remaining in the stage for one more week. I figure it took me a long time to pack on the pounds and it's going to take a long time to lose them. As they say, slow and steady wins the race!
I spent this past week familiarizing myself with the SparkPeople website. It's a huge site to navigate. I haven't spent too much time getting my page put together. I've really concentrated on learning how to log my meals and everything I put in my mouth! I've also familiarized myself with the myriad of Spark Teams that are out there and have even joined a few. I've posted a few questions on the message boards and have received prompt and knowledgeable answers. I feel like a kid at the beach, cautiously putting my toe in the water to see if the water is warm. I've been happy to discover that the SparkPeople community is a warm and welcoming bunch and I don't have to be timid or shy and I can jump right in and ask questions or share my opinions. It's very liberating to feel so supported in learning this new, healthy lifestyle.
I just read a great Healthy Lifestyle Blog here on SP. It was titled, USA Today Share Tips, Challenges Readers to Start 'Dieting on a Dime'
One of the tips was to "Plan ahead and create a menu of at least five dinners a week . . ." Well, so far, I have found two dinners that I like and can keep on-hand. I'm still looking for more meal ideas. I posted a request for more meal ideas with two of my spark teams and am waiting to see what the response will be.
In the meantime, I will share some of the tricks I learned this week:
1. Sugar Free gum is your friend. It will keep you from munching as you cook. It will also keep you from mindless munching just about any time of day!
2. Decaf Herbal Tea counts as water! Yes! I have become very good friends with Celestial Seasonings, Fruit Tea Sampler. They are caffeine-free herbal teas. Very fruity and refreshing. Also, I've replaced my morning coffee with Stash Premium Chocolate Hazelnut Tea (decaf). I found that the only way I liked coffee in the morning was with about three tablespoons of Hazelnut creamer (about 60 calories) and I wanted to have at least 3 cups. That added up to 180 calories per day just in my morning coffee!! So, this Chocolate Hazelnut Tea has been a lovely substitute with NO calories!!! Yes!
3. Leslie Sansone Walking DVD's. I purchased Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds Express DVD. It has a 3 mile advanced walk and a 4 mile super challenge. I've done them both and found them both fun and challenging. Also, Leslie is very motivating and likable.
My goal for this week is to continue to work out with both cardio and strength training. Continue to search for low fat and low calorie meals that taste good and are easy to prepare. I'm also searching for more workout DVD's to add to my routine. Also, I'll continue to log my nutrition and fitness and surf SparkPeople.
