Sayonara, 2008!

I don't do new years resolutions so it's ironic that my new healthy lifestyle would fall in so closely to the new year. My husband got us a gym membership for Christmas. I had dropped my old one because it was so expensive but there is a 24 hour a day 7 days a week gym in walking/biking distance of our house and the membership there for both of us is the same for just me at the one to which i had previously belonged. I'm so excited! This is his first ever gym membership or experience with exercise. We're doing 30 minutes of cardio every other day and then some weights. Saturday I did leg weights so tonight i'm going to do arms and abs. I really like that the gym is so close to home and that I can go any hour of the day. Is it wrong to be more excited to go because I have a new black and pink ensemble? ha! We both like it because in a way it's like having our own gym since nobody is there.
Here's what I'm doing to be healthier

-Exercising
-Tracking my calories
-Using bento for portion control
-planning planning planning!
-remaining cognizant of my choices.

The dietician at work told me what range of calories I should stay in for healthy weight loss. Sparkpeople calculated my caloric range in the exact same area, so, I thought this site would be a good way to do that. I am quitting weight watchers and just focusing on calorie and mindful choices for healthy foods. I'm planning my meals in advance and calculating the calories so that I know exactly what I have available and what I need to do. I have a HRM (Polar F6) and I am tracking the calories I burn at the gym to document here. It seems like a lot of these things should just be intuitive. However, after years (27) of poor choices and habits that were ingrained in me from a young age, I think that visualization, documentation, and recognizing the choices I make is going to be of the utmost importance. So! I'm looking forward to tracking my food, making bento lunches, exercising and losing weight at the butt end of 2008 and onward through 2009!

nota bene:

I'm going to France in May and would like to drop 32-40 pounds by then. At a loss of 1-2 lbs a week that is a reasonable 40 week goal. So! Let's see what happens, shall we?

  Actually, they still have Core, they just changed the name to "Simply Filling" and it starts in the week 6 book of the new program. If you do decide to join again you can go and ask for the week 6 book instead of week 1 and go right in to it.

I might go back to WW and keep tracking things here. I'm not reigning myself in well.

Booze. I like booze. emoticon I couldn't tell what that icon was by looking at it so i posted it. meh.

    Hi and welcome to SparkPeople. I also love making bento lunches and am also a recent WW dropout. I finally decided it just wasn't worth the money when I could do it on my own (with SparkPeople) for free. I never liked the Points thing very much and now that they have dropped Core I couldn't see any reason to stay.
